Whew! After 30+ hours of hard CSS, HTML, PHP, and template work, I was finally able to pull erica.biz together and get it looking exactly the way I wanted. Good thing I’m “retired” (for a few months) now and have a lot of free time…
What do I mean, retired? Oh, yeah. I sold Simpli Hosting.
I had run Simpli for over 6 years, and web hosting, though fun, wasn’t what I wanted to continue doing. On September 7, the acquisition closed, and by mid-October, I was frrrreeeee!
So what do I do with my time, and what’s next? So many questions I need to answer…I know! I’ll give you a couple of hints here: I’ll likely be starting another business in late 2008. Also, if you were paying close attention to my 2007 goal list, you’ll notice there’s one goal still unaccomplished for 2007: Start a new blog. I still have the domain name and still have the idea. Expect that to be a big part of my work for 2008. More goals to come soon, as it is the goal-setting time of year.
Please, click around, and let me know if you see any bugs or have any problems with the site (please use the comments feature here instead of emailing me, so others can chime in.) This was a ton of work, but it’s reached a 1.0 release marker: erica.biz 1.0! Much, much more to come, and many more blog entries to write…
Like this entry? You will love getting my free business tips! No spam, and I won't give your email address to any other company.

Erica,
Congratulations on the sale of Simpli and the launch of your new site, here.
So, out of curiousity: where is it hosted?

Hey Erica,
Maybe it’s just me, but I’m seeing an awful font on the blog when using Opera. I can barely read the text. It seems to look fine in IE6 though. Very strange.
Paul told me last night about the sale. I’m really pleased for you, but shocked at the same time. Of all the Web hosting owners I know, you were probably bottom of my list of owners who might sell anytime soon. You just seemed to have too much of a personal and emotional connection to the business to be able to sell it. However, I guess we all know that we should sell at the peak, and that seems to be what you did. Congratulations!

Oh, and while I’m here, I have some shameless self promotion to do.
Not too long back I wrote a list of the WordPress plugins I use on my blog. I gathered you might find the post useful: http://www.jamieharrop.com/2007/11/21/my-new-wordpress-plugins/

Curious, did the sale of Simpli make the goal of $1 million worth come true?
6. December 2007 at 1:31 pm
@Dossy: Hosted at Simpli/SVWH, of course.
I have my own dual Xeon server that is colocated there. I negotiated some colo as part of the deal. I host this, all my email, and a couple sites for friends there.
@Jamie: I troubleshooted with a friend on this, and I think we’ve got that fixed now. Can you confirm?
@Johnny: Yes and no. The sale was mostly a monthly payment for 3 years. The sale was over $1M. After taxes, in 3 years, I’ll have enough to be over halfway there. So…it’s enough to give me financial freedom for several years, but not enough to retire on.

Actually, erica, it still doesn’t work on Opera. It doesn’t seem to realize that Trebuchet MS can be ¿downgraded? to Arial, or some other font.
So, does that mean you’ll now start working on your book, or is a journey in the immediate future?
I like your new blog better. I never could post on the old one.

Hi Johnny,
I removed Trebuchet completely. If you are still seeing it, try deleting your cache and coming back to the page.

Hi Erica,
Cache cleared, but the font is still there in Opera.
For what it’s worth, there are some parts that are fine. For example, the menu and the paragraph at the top that starts with “Hi, I’m Erica Douglass. I am a successful entrepreneur,”. It seems to be just the post content and comments that uses the bad font.

Hi Jamie,
Sounds like you still have an old stylesheet in there. I don’t have a different font-family for the summary paragraph…although I did previously. Trebuchet is gone as well. Have you tried another browser?
