Hey, great post!!!

Make a 100 posts like that, synthesize them, and you've got a great book!

Speak from the trenches. People take you more seriously when there's mud on your boots. It shows them you speak from experience. People value that.

I value that.

A few quick notes:

Personal note: I apologize for the long delay between posts. My grandfather passed away and I am helping my mother out. I expect to be back to a regular posting schedule (and even kick it up a notch) by August 1. Thank you for your understanding.

I've been getting several requests to write more. Each post of this length takes me about 4 hours to write, but my goal is to start writing twice a week instead of just once. This is a significant time commitment, but I think it's worth it.

Coming up on the post schedule: A "Microsoft vs. IBM" post that explains the two ways to scale your business, and a personal update on what I'm doing these days. :)

Erica, I was interested in your comment about 16 year cycles, but you seem to have misunderstood the difference between number of sales vs median prices. Your quote above about sales being down 26% refers to number of homes sold, not the price they sold for. Go reread the article, the median price was only down 6 percent, both month over month (a stat that only dishonest agents use since real estate is so strongly seasonal) and year over year.

So when you mention 30-40% price drops, can you show the equivalent price drop (not sales drop) in the last cycle? I'm not seeing that much of a correction either in the 1990 peak to mid-90s, or the 2001 correction. Yes, there was a price correction but I believe it was 15-20% in Santa Clara County.

Outlying areas have had huge corrections already, $4.60 gas is contributing to this. But doesn't that make close-in areas to jobs worth MORE?

I found your blog by stumbling upon your Twitter profile through ramit, and exploring it to find the ebook he thanked you for. I'm really glad I came across your site. Without being aware of this post, I actually tried to do a 30 day fast from complaining two months ago (hard stuff!). Keep up the good work.

Oh, I think I see...the other site you purchased (of which we do not know the url) is the one making $800 per month...not Inspiring Innovators.

Just wanting to understand it all bit better.

Thanks.

Hi Nisha,

Good point, and it's why I suggest you do a 30-day trial. Saying "no" is an empowering thing -- it helps you gain perspective on what is really worth your time.

"There is a kind of satisfaction that comes from doing things free for other people who need it, that you cannot get any other way."

That's true, but there's also a lot of burnout if you do too many things for other people while undercutting your own momentum. Steve Pavlina calls it "lightworker syndrome", and I see this fairly often with folks who really want to do a lot of good in the world. Find a balance. If it's really worth doing, it will still be worth doing after a 30-day trial.

@Dave - Overcommitting yourself? Well, whatever works for you! :) When I overcommit myself, I just feel overwhelmed and depressed...but this is definitely a personal thing.

Thank you for the comments!

Hi Julie,

I purchased a site and I'm converting all their content to the new domain - InspringInnovators.com. What you see up there is a work in progress that will become a subscription website. Right now, it's under construction. :)

Please subscribe and I will continue posting about exactly what I'm doing with Inspiring Innovators. I should have another update by the end of this month.

Thank you!
