What do you think about sited that have an “-” in them to separate two words?

Are these a good option in order to conserve the keywords and still get that .com?

Great advice about the lower compition keywords. It’s the basis for everything I do.

I don’t mind optimizing for the scraps other marketers over look as you can find them by the dozens.

If you make a post about blue widgets there is a good chance you will rank for other terms too, such as light blue widgets or blue widgets cheap.

This low compition keywords are worth their weight in gold.

Hello Erica,

what about extension .info
and also what do you think about putting keywords in different order. For example cleaningbusiness.com is taken but businesscleaning.com is available. What’s you opinion about that.

Having your keyword on your domain is really very helpful in SEO but you need to make sure that you take note of the new Google algorithm, the Caffeine, while it was beneficial before to have long tail domain name, I am afraid this is not true anymore with the new algorithm.

Hey Erica- I’ll be honest, when I first found your site (I believe through Ramit) I was a bit skeptical of your .biz. I thought “spam” upon seeing the link, but once I saw the content on the site, and read through a few posts, that skepticism faded.

I am starting a business that people don’t know they want yet, so I don’t think the keyword approach is the best bet for me. And its in the wedding industry, so competition is fierce. I’ve decided to go with a short name that will be easy for clients to type in. The extensions are all available save for the .com (of course). But its actually not being used. I’ve contacted the owner to see if they are willing to sell, but if not… I just can’t decide. I tend to lean toward .us over .net or .biz. Am I being silly?
