That is a great exercise! I used to do this same exercise every three months with a diversity group I coordinated and use it now for other businesses I run.

Sabine: selling soap can actually give you an advantage of sorts. Consider that clients might pay $10 a month for a certain combination of soaps, or they may be willing to pay $50 a month you teaching them how to make the newest soap each month, like Diane said. Have you tried looking in an Avon, Mary Kay or other beauty catalog and see what types of packages they offer and tweak it for your use?

Erica
This is a great post with a really good suggestion and it seems so practical that I don't know why I hadn't thought of it LOL!! I have a gift box business and I like the idea of receiving a free monthly hints and tips for gift giving, then moving on to a paid membership site for receiving new product releases and a Reminder service. I could offer a wine, or gift club service to exclusive members. Perhaps also a personal shopping cart along with personal delivery of a more elaborate gift for a special occasion. Also offering Gift Certificates. If you have any further ideas, I would love to hear of them.

Sabine
Do you just sell soap, or do you actually create and make it? If you make it, then perhaps you could create a special line of soaps, that you then teach people how to make one by one. Some people may pay for this service or you could run a small workshop and teach a few people, then get testimonials from them and repeat the process. Or you could start a soap collectors club. I still have soaps that I had when I was a little girl!!

lol, I sell soap - I don't think there is anything my customers would pay me $1000 for, unless I hidea real diamond in them ;-)

But I do like the exercise and it made me think about how to get a subscription value out of my customers.

When it is not easy to think of things in terms of how much money we can get from them, it helps to break things down into how many different levels of value we can create for our clients. Our ActionCOACH business coaches have a whole suite of products set-up just this way; to provide value from business coaching at different levels. At http://www.actioncoach.com/program_service.php, you can see we have monthly/quarterly workshops that provide networking, as well as 1-on-1 consultations and ongoing business coaching. There are also book clubs and game nights.
