I missed WealthCamp because I only now heard of it (August 2008). Will there ever be additional WealthCamps? What was the turnout? Did attendees appreciate the experience? The web site doesn’t show any activity since the event… has this project been abandoned?

Hi Erica, I’ve been reading your blog for awhile, also enjoyed hearing your interview on the Businessmakers Show recently.

I get to listen to that while driving my kids around on Sat. mornings, & usually they don’t say much, but that time my daughter blurted out, “she’s only 26 and already retired!!” I explained that it was only “semi-retired”, though am not surprised that didn’t last long.

Anyway, your seminar sounds like a great idea. I’ve got a lot of ideas about this myself, actually.

One thing I’d suggest is that you start with much simpler stuff than different sorts of investment vehicles, etc.

Most people don’t understand basic stuff like liquidity, investment time horizon, importance of health, etc., which very few advisors discuss. Without an understanding of things like this, people can get into all kinds of trouble.

More than anything else, I’d say liquidity is highly under-rated, and is where most people really get blindsided.

@Dale: I agree. I think I’m going to do that in a vidoe post that I will post here as well as on the WealthCamp site. Unfortunately, regarding domain names, pretty much all of the wealthcamp.* domains were taken (hence the .info.) If this event becomes more than a one-time thing, I will likely offer to buy some of the other ones with the profits.

@Loic: Too bad you won’t be here, but thank you for reading and thank you in advance for promoting WealthCamp! I will definitely keep you posted regarding recording it…I’d like to do that as well.

After meeting at BarCampBankSF, I was willing to attend your WealthCamp, but just realized that I will be in France in May 31st

Did you think about recording (audio or video podcast) the WealthCamp ?

For the BCBSF a lot of interesting things have been said, but few traces left. I was wondering if we could keep a trace of it ? Well, I guess you will post something after the meeting…

Anyway, the WealthCamp is a great initiative, Erica ! I will try to convince my friends to attend.

Great idea! You are doing this for all the right reasons.

My only suggestion is that you need to figure out how to distinguish this event from all of the “get rich quick” events out there. When I first heard about Wealth Camp, I thought it was yet another seminar organized by a wealth guru trying to sell me an over-priced product of some sort. You are trying to do something very different.

Maybe it would help to use a .org domain name?
