HI Erica,
Reading this posts brings back so many memories of starting up.
The butterflies in your stomach after the inital euphoria of registering a business and setting up an office. Reality just strikes you and you know you have to get up and running.

Thanks for the reminder of always setting up yourself not to fail and using that 'hunger' to bring you closer to your goals instead of against you.

Really great writing. You should really consider hooking up with a publisher and writing a book.

I was confused when I first read the part about setting up an environment where you cannot fail. I mis-understood that to mean that no matter what you did you would not fail, like you had a magic lamp or a partner with a magic wand, etc.

Then as I read further, I realized you meant you are burning the bridge, operating without a safety net, going all-in, and whatever other buzzwords you want to throw in here.

I must be staying up too late to work, it's making my brain go mushy. ;)

Yes, listening to customers is important, but so is being smart, making the right decisions for the right reasons, and taking action when it needs to happen. I see too many SB owners not being serious enough and coasting by. They will lose the race.

ok, back to code. i'll read more tomorrow.

Hi Erica! That was a very nice story! I am also in the age of 26 as of now. But having to hear that you achieved a million dollars at that age was really a feat.

Erica, I found you by way of Rich Schefren (I'm a client) follow on Twitter. Excellent story/blog. Your comments are right on and as Maria posted above you are wise for your years. I remember what I was doing when I was 26 and shudder to think about it.

I'm a real estate investor/developer of 9yrs that recently was forced online in past 4mos for obvious reasons. Many learning curves but very exciting and very applicable to our real estate business. Hope to contribute some value to your blog.

I've loved reading your blog entries and through the archives. I'm a mom and a business owner in SoCal and some of the business issues, well, almost all, resonate with me. My husband and I own an IT consulting business (providing IT support to local businesses) and I face so much of what you've discussed on your blog about entrepreneurship. It's nice to know someone out there can articulate it so well and I'm impressed by your insight at your age. Even though you're retired (well, not really anymore), your posts are valuable and really resonate. In any event, like you did, we're working toward a subscription based business model since we're tired of the break-fix model which accounts for about 30-50% of our business.

You probably have people telling you this all the time, but geez... You are SO incredibly wise for someone so young! I'm the same age as you and I wish I had 1/10th the wisdom you have.

Sometimes I feel like I am blindly jumping off a cliff but I guess that as you mentioned you have to "set up an environment where you are not allowed to fail". Does moving back in with your parents count as that first step? Lol ;-).

I love reading about these young teenagers and adults having there own businesses, and becoming millionaires at a young age. Im about to turn 19 in a few weeks and reading stories like this make me believe I could do it too, but I cant help to having a feeling of doubt, also.

PS CONGRATULATIONS!!
