Hi Jess,

Excellent point. I have talked about this with my friends as well. My boils were actually caused by extreme cases of me not saying what I really felt. The first run of them in Feb. 2005 was caused by me not saying to S what I wanted, and the second round -- this round -- was caused by strife between me and my mother. In both cases I've corrected the root cause. Hopefully this time I've also learned the underlying lesson and, once these are cured, will not have to have any more painful reminders to say what I'm feeling even if it hurts the other person.

The problem is that the doctor didn't really cure your boils. He merely cleaned out one of them. You will still get more unless you find the root cause of them and fix it. A lot of times it is stress-related. That's the problem I have with many doctors. They don't want to find the cause of the ailment. They just want to prescribe medicine and that is a very dangerous belief system they have. I've been given medicine that was later recalled by the FDA or caused me to be more sick than the ailment they were treating me for. I now only go to the doctor if I need to and for a checkup each year. I hardly ever get sick anyway. I think the people that go to the doctor all the time end up believing they have more problems than they do and their belief system leads them to hypochondria. I have a friend who is only 30 that takes 10+ pills a day for different things. She keeps going to new doctors who diagnose her for new things.

Not all Doctors are agents of the pharmecutical money machinery. Some of them actually understand that cause and effect thing. It seems you've posited two extreme opposing views: Always doctors, never doctors. Having seen a number of older generation family members suffer for disdain of doctors, so I can't really buy into either extreme. But there is a huge dose of mind over body that belief systems can activate, so I agree with S' comment that only you can find a path that works for you.

And this is part of what I wrote back in response to that email:

The first path is the proper path. You must tear down your ingrained belief system; there are very few things one must actually see a doctor for.

The problem with our society is that people have an ingrained belief that ONLY doctors can provide healing, and therefore, they can only be healed by going to a doctor, even if all the doctor does is prescribe a placebo.

There are many other potential paths to healing; and if you find one which works for you, you should embrace it.

I VERY rarely go to doctors. The last time was when I was stung by a bee and (since I'm allergic) almost died. I think the time before that it was when I woke up in the middle of the night with stabbing pains in my kidney and urinating blood. All they did was give me pain meds until my body took care of it. That's basically how I see doctors... they just give me something to minimize the impact on my lifestyle while my body does the actual work.

I think there is a balance. I really feel that modern medicine has it's positive uses. It is the way our society views medicine that is the problem. Instead of making all cures available, they xianize medicine, and give only a limited selection... generally whatever is making the pharmacutical companies the most money.

My personal feelings is that I need to have a doctor who understands all of this. They are going to be far more educated about things than me, but they need to understand that I know my body and have strong feelings about what will help. In the times I can't solve health problems myself, I go to them for guidance... and we decide together what sort of treatment is the best. The trick is finding a doctor like that.

Herbalists are great... it's worthwhile to have a relationship with one. Osteopaths tend to be more open to natural healing, both herbal and spiritual, and many work with herbalists. So that may be a worthwhile route for finding someone who will meet you at your level and help you be on a more human, open minded path towards your health.
