I would even go further as to say that virtualization is the future (already even the essense) of computation and computer systems.

But yeah, simplicity is great. "Stay out of the user's way" is a philosophy I try to follow, which goes hand in hand with "don't make the user think." Even though I didn't design Trac, one big reason I chose it to build DevjaVu around is because it does just that. The rules of UI design can be applied at other levels as well, including the service/product level. DevjaVu as a whole makes the problem of project hosting "stay out of the way" so the developer "doesn't have to think about it."

Deliver value. Change the world. I'm sure you've read Guy Kawasaki's The Art of Start. This post reminds me of his idea that you should build a business to "make meaning," which I've always felt was important. If you aim to change the world with your company and product, it would have to have value almost by definition.

isn't this a rather major change to make suddenly as a result of some reading on a saturday afternoon?

btw, this is a nice concept. ..... “In so far as your business consists of dealing with other people, the key-thought of all your efforts must be to convey to their minds the impression of increase.”
