Honestly, I initially /chose/ your service because of the 100% Uptime guarantee (being able to talk to you on AIM also got my attention big time). I /stay/ because of your communication skills and dependability of service.

I was in Los Angeles at the time and had no idea about Simpli's reputation (which I now know is stellar). I searched looking for affordable hosting and saw a certain company that was a bit too affordable. After some research, it was apparent that they had a poor uptime and hated their customers. It then occurred to me that I'd taken my previous data center's uptime for granted and now uptime, along with reasonable prices, was going to be my priority.

Simpli suited all of that and I've been really happy since.

Btw, I went to my first SHDH the other day after attending Startup School. I heard that you are a regular and hopefully we'll bump into each other at the next one :)

The funny thing is I've had better luck borrowing tools at the large datacenters that cater only to HUGE clients. For that matter in my experience the customer service at the large datacenters is better, even when you are a little 3 or 4 rack customer.

BTW I have had good experiences on multiple occasions with InterNAP.

thanks for your discussion back...... yet, I guess it is my personality, but I simply don't want to count on anyone else to get MY work done... If I knew them, that's one thing - but going into a strange place, with stranger folk, well, my personality style simply says "bring your own stuff"....

Hi Rory,

You weren't the only one to say this, so I thought I'd clarify. Typically, when I go into larger datacenters that cater only to HUGE clients, I don't expect them to have tools (although most still do.) Smaller datacenters that cater to 1U/2U customers I always expect to have tools, since most 1U/2U customers wouldn't think of bringing their own tools. This was a smaller datacenter that has many 1U/2U customers, so I expected them to have tools, and was surprised not only by the fact that they didn't, but mainly by their rude and obnoxious attitude. Even had they had tools, their attitude alone would be enough to discourage me from ever doing business with them.

I do like your stuff - yet on this one, other than the stuck rails, I believe you fumbled. Heck, *I* would never go into any sort of server room to get gear out without any of my own tools. It most definitely is *NOT* the hoster's responsibility to loan/lend you anything - it most certainly is 100% up to you to deal with your own stuff.

You simply cannot trust 'the other guy' to make your life easier. Definitely next time bring your own tools!

Hey SlashChick,

Heh, I was going to point you at the blog post but I see you've found it already. Yep, you're right--it's all about the service. I'm looking forward to working with Simpli.
